Showing Off El Paso in Photos

“I grew up in Ciudad Juarez and finished my higher education in El Paso, but I feel I discovered who I am and what I love while living in El Paso. That’s why this city has the most special place in my heart. My very first exposure to photography happened at home. My parents met while studying tourism at the Instituto Politécnico Nacional so they loved to travel around and explore the city while capturing those moments in really aesthetically pleasing ways. Seeing those photos and experiencing their emotions from moments where I wasn’t present or I was too young to remember, lead me to begin doing what I do. I try to experiment with different photographic techniques but all of them gravitate towards the same overall message of telling a story and driving emotion. It’s best to focus on developing your sense of visual communication, without that it will be just a sharp image and nothing else. You can have a super nice camera and know the best settings, but if your image doesn’t communicate something… “que chiste.” The El Paso art scene is one of the most socially enriching, I dare to say, in the world. Our local scene is deeply connected to our culture, history and social situations. We are in a very special time and place and our community is aware of that and is determined to empower it to create their own stories”
