“I’m a fifth generation leather crafter in my family but really the first to make a business out of it on my own. I learned from my dad who learned from his dad and probably so on. I spend most of my time crafting leather goods because I’ve always wanted to pursue something that would let me be creative with my own hands. It started small, I learned by watching my dad and grandpa make belts and purses for fun. If it wasn’t accessories then it was horse saddles and other similar items. I realized I had a talent for it, it was in my blood. I have a skilled family that supports me and continues to support me today. When it got rough and I had no job, I decided with what I learned and the influence of my family, I would open my own shop. It was a risk for sure but then in 2015, I opened Tres Toros Leather Co. and was extremely grateful to eventually have my own pop-up shop downtown in 2017. Having the pop up gave me all of the connections and exposure to not only the art community but to El Paso. My time spent downtown really helped grow me into the artist and business woman I am today. I’ve met amazing people and other artists who have influenced me a lot. If it weren’t for the support of my family/friends or even me not having a job, I probably wouldn’t be pursuing a Bachelors in Business to continue this dream. Now I’m building my own shop where the store first started in Fabens,TX to change the way we shop and make it more personal with the option for custom items.
