If you’re buying a rosca de Reyes, chances are you might be visiting Bowie bakery.
First established in 1951 in the heart of Segundo Barrio, Bowie bakery switched ownership in 1971 to “Don Angel” Marquez, who throughout the years, made the bakery a staple in El Paso. Originally from Zacatecas, Don Angel began baking at the age of 13, thus bringing with him years of experience. The bakery quickly expended to add more locations in town.
Don Angel passed away in 2005, and George Bush sent the family a letter expressing his condolences, as he himself was a fan of their pan dulce while in El Paso (pic 3). The bakeries continue to be proudly owned by the Marquez family to this day.
